Reports: Redskins cut Reserve Lt. Kettani
Reserve Navy Lt. Eric Kettani has lost his day job, according to multiple media reports.
The former Annapolis standout will be one of several players cut by the Washington Redskins to reach Tuesday’s 75-man roster limit, ESPN and other outlets have reported. The team has yet to announce any cuts.
Among the other reported cuts for the Redskins: Veteran wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth, who tweeted out a picture of Kettani in his (Navy) uniform before the team’s preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans and sent a similar image before Saturday’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills:
Neither player appears in the box score from Saturday’s game; Kettani, who spent 2012 on the Redskins’ practice squad, had a 13-yard reception against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 of the preseason, according to his NFL.com bio.
As ESPN and other news outlets have pointed out, Kettani was competing with established NFLer Darrel Young for the team’s lone fullback roster spot and was considered a long shot, despite some glowing praise from head coach Mike Shanahan during a June pinning ceremony at Redskins Park.
When the cuts become official, Kettani will be eligible to sign with any other interested NFL team. He could also return to the practice-squad ranks; players can appear on the practice-but-don’t-play lists for up to three seasons.
