Wasn’t technology supposed to make our lives easier? Wasn’t email supposed to ease our communications and maximize efficiency?

Well, wasn’t it?

So how come we are working so hard?

One of the most revolutionary technological advances in modern history occurred in the early 90s with the introduction of the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN or DISNet). For the first time in history, Battle Groups were able to communicate instantly over DOD’s version of the internet, even when on deployment.

Before DISNet, countless hours were wasted running message traffic back and forth. With DISNet, countless hours were wasted reading and answering emails.

Before long, everyone had a computer. Commanding Officers had them right in their cabins.

Marines had them in the field.

In the modern era, new advances have made computing more user-friendly.

Now, virtually everyone has access to the vast universe of technological wonders made available in the modern era.

I don’t know about you, but I could use a break from all of this technology. A nice, quiet beach, far away from the constant intrusion of computers, the internet, and IP protocols sounds about right.
