Military registration for the Marine Corps Marathon opens this afternoon at 3 p.m.

Planning to run in the Marine Corps Marathon this year? You might want to stay close to your computer this afternoon.

Priority registration for active-duty troops and reservists for the Oct. 26 race in Washington, D.C., opens today at 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be a limited number of priority bibs, said race spokeswowan Tami Faram, and once those slots are filled, military runners will have to register through public lottery.

The general registration lottery — through new vendor RaceIt — will be open from Feb. 23 to March 15. Lottery winners will be notified March 19.

General registration will be $110, but members of the military who sign up during early registration will get a 15 percent discount from sponsor GEICO, dropping the cost to $93.50.

Also opening today are the Marine Corps 17.75K, which will give finishers over the age of 14 a guaranteed entry to the marathon, and the MCM History Half in Fredericksburg, Va.
